Meet B G S. #brandcollab
Hello there loves! If you're new to our blog, welcome, we're excited to meet you! And for those of you who have been with us for a while, welcome back! This is the first post of 2 0 1 8 and we couldn't be more excited because this week we're debuting a special brand collab with BlackGirlSunscreen. We're so grateful to have this platform because not only does it connect us to our readers, but it also gives us the opportunity to collab and stand behind companies and brands that we share our vision with and this is definitely one of them. Black Girl Sunscreen was created with the people of color in mind. As of right now, there is no other product like this on the market. BlackGirlSunscreen is a weightless, ultra-sheer, fragrance free, melanin reinforcing SPF 30 sunscreen moisturizer that empowers the everyday women to have fun under the sun. With natural ingredients that moisturize the skin without leaving a white residue or as we know it being "ashy", it's hard not to fall in love with this product. Ingredients include carrot seed oil, jojoba oil, almond oil and shea butter while being fragrance free. They are a company that wants you to be smart, come out from the shade, and protect your skin while you're at the beach, at the pool, or at a cookout.
M A K E U P T I P S:
Believe it or not, everyone should be wearing sunscreen to protect their skin from the UVB & UVA rays that come from the sun. Now typically speaking, many of us know to put on sunscreen for those summer days or before heading outdoors. But what about if it's an overcast day or if you're going to be indoors or those cold winter days? Well, we cannot stress enough how important it is to incorporate sunscreen to your skincare and beauty regimen for those of you who are makeup lovers. Here's the reality that we all have to face: you’ve got to wear sunscreen every day of the year, come rain or shine, cold or hot. “Ultraviolet rays that are the cause of sun damage and skin cancer are always present,” explains Dr. Shilesh Iyer, M.D., a Board Certified dermatologist with the renown New York Dermatology Group. “They are independent of cold or hot weather, and are not blocked by clouds. On overcast days, only visible rays (but not UVB rays) from the sun are blocked. The best way to protect the skin is with sun protection.” Like moisturizers, implementing sunscreen to your daily routine, will keep your skin and face looking healthy, wrinkle-free, and glowing. Although, for some odd reason, there tends to be a misconception that people of color don't need sunscreen or that they don't get sunburnt floating around, it honestly couldn't be the furthest thing from the truth. Truth is that "African Americans have the highest rate of mortality in the U.S. population after receiving a melanoma (skin cancer) diagnosis." Also, the sun is absolutely brutal and it will burn you, despite the amount of melanin that you have, if you dare stand in the way without any protection. So because we love you, here are some T I P S on how you can love your self and the skin your in:
S T E P S: These steps are completely optional and are completely dependent on your own personal preferences, your skin type, and your own schedule! This is just a recommendation or a simple guide to help those of you who need a new boost in your skincare routine! Like fashion, one size doesn't necessarily fit all and it's the same with skincare routine. So whether you deal with acne, oily skin, dry skin, dark circles around your eyes, or combination skin, these steps should be completely modified to your own unique needs!
STEP 1. Cleanse your face with your favorite foaming cleanser
STEP 2. Exfoliate your face with your favorite scrub or with the help of a cleansing brush
STEP 3. Tone your face with a toner and a cotton ball by gently patting the product into your skin to prep your it for the following treatments
STEP 4. Apply your moisturizer of choice around your entire face & neck to keep your face firm, smooth, and radiant
STEP 5. Protect your face with your own BlackGirlSunscreen or a sunscreen of choice and spread it all over your face by gently massaging it into your skin
STEP 6. Continue on with a makeup routine or if you don't wear makeup, continue getting ready for your day and be sure to glow!
A S H A
For this specific look, we wanted to really focus on a "winter/seasonal" aesthetic, so for Asha's outfit we we decided to go more for a warm & comfy look which couldn't be more perfect for this rare cold winter storm that is currently sweeping over the east coast! So we pulled together a casual outfit with a knit turtleneck sweater, a pair of dark washed skinny jeans, a fashionable belt, knee high boots, and topped it off with a long green bomber jacket! Not only is this look comfy and fashionable, but it's a versatile outfit that is perfect for any occasion! If it's too chilly out, then the bomber jacket came in handy but if you're too warm then the knit sweater was thick enough to keep you cool & comfortable when indoors. If you know us, then you know L A Y E R I N G is everything when putting together an outfit because it's easily adjustable to wherever you are or whatever you're doing!
Challenge: This week we challenge you to show some love and support for our girl Shontay and stand behind her vision by buying your own bottle of Black Girl Sunscreen and incorporate it into your skincare routine! We love supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs especially women who are passionate about inclusion! You can click right here to purchase your very own bottle. Be sure to give them a follow on IG @blackgirlsunscreen and to tell your friends about it as well!
